Meet my birds

Birds. I have a lot of them and will have even more soon, so before it gets even more chaotic let me take the chance for me to introduce you to my flock.

The Chickens

First up, we have Beans, the food obsessed, hugely messy and dirt bath loving chicken. Beans is about 1 year old now and will pretty much do anything for food, so she follows us around everywhere she’s allowed As I said earlier she loves dirt baths. So she’ll bury herself in dirt and throw it almost everywhere, often with her companion Eggs. You would think baths are meant to keep them clean, but if anything she always ends up 10x dirtier than before.

Our other chicken is Eggs. Eggs is incredibly friendly, and although she always loves a bit of food, she isn’t nearly as obsessed as Beans. We have taught her to sit on our arms – which Beans does a bit as well- and also to play the xylophone (although it is debatable if she is ‘playing’ it or just randomly pecking – but I believe she has a talent!). She gets along very well with Beans and together they are partners in crime causing mischief where ever possible.

The Chicks

So currently we only have one chick, Tomato – and as I’m writing this they are three days old! We won’t know what gender he/she is until he’s over 6 months old, but we’re hoping for a girl. At this age all chicks spend most of their time sleeping, so I don’t really have much to say about him/her, apart from he couldn’t be cuter!

We are currently incubating more eggs, so Tomato will hopefully have some friends soon!

The Quail

We have three button quail – called Dale, Gale, and Kale ( and yes, giving them rhyming names was a mistake). I would have written individually about each one, but they have a little gang together, and apart from Dale, who you can see in the picture, they are impossible to take photos of, but I’m working on it. The quail are very small and could sit very comfortably in the palm of your hand, but they don’t really like being picked up, which they make up for by making the cutest array of noises you could think of. We’re considering getting some more but haven’t quite made up our minds just yet

I think I’ve said just about everything I can to do with my birds, and I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing about them. Have an eggcellent day (get it?), and I’ll hope to see you all again very soon 🙂
